Although classes are starting back up, your summer fun doesn’t have to end. Autumn in Philadelphia is filled with tons of great events ranging from the arts to networking. Check out these great events to spice up your fall and give you a break from your normal college routine. Whether you’re looking for great food, events to boost your resume or ways to meet new friends, find out why Philly is the place to be this fall. Feria del Barrio
When:September 21st Where: 5th Street between Cambria and Lehigh Avenue
The Feria Del Barrio festival is a great way to squeeze in just a bit more summer before the semester starts to get too busy. The event is essentially one humongous block party celebrating the best of Latin culture. This includes the authentic food, music, and arts. There will also be traditional Latin bands playing throughout the day, so be prepared to do a little dancing!
When: September 27th Where: The Philadelphia Museum of Art
Come join us at steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and meet your Philadelphia. Enjoy FREE access to museums with your college ID, food & drinks, games and tons of free merch! There will also be pop-up performances and entertainment from the Philadelphia Jazz Project, The Franklin Institute, Eastern State Penitentiary, and more! Whether you’re a new student or preparing to graduate, CollegeFest is the perfect way to kickoff the fall semester. We’ll see you there!
Night Market Philadelphia
When: October 2nd from 6pm – 10pm Where: Chinatown from 11th and Race Street
Been looking for the best locally grown veggies or that food truck that all your friends have been talking about? Well, the Night Market is the place for these food dreams, and many more, to come true. The event boasts over 80 food trucks, local restaurants, and drink stands that share the varying cuisine that Philly has to offer. There will also be music and art as a backdrop to this food filled dream.
Philly Photo Day
When: October 10th Where: Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Photo Arts Center is challenging everyone to be an artist for a day. The idea for the event is pretty simple: take a picture of anything on October 10th in Philadelphia. PPAC then prints out all of the photos they receive and display them in an art exhibition during November and December. In the end, the project hopes to result in one big masterpiece showcasing the city as well as the creative people that inhabit it.
When: October 12th from 12pm – 6pm Where: Gayborhood near 13th and Locust
Stemming from National Coming Out day, this event celebrates its pride for our gay and lesbian Philadelphians. Located in the Gayboorhood, the gathering brings community groups, businesses, and people in the area together to show there support one another (and have a bit of fun). The event will have local artists performing, carnival attractions, and a flea market.
When:October 9th – 17th
HGTV and Pinterest addicts, the Philadelphia Center for Architecture is hosting this event for you. There will be exhibits, workshops, demonstrations, tours, and lectures by artisans all over town to help you spark your own creativity. Topics for these events include anything from architecture to landscaping to furniture design and everything in between.
Philadelphia Film Festival
When: October 16th – 26th
If you are a fan of movies, the Philadelphia Film Festival is the place to be in October. The Philadelphia Film Society is hosting the event which will show over a 100 movies. The types of films range from American Independents to Graveyard Shift (aka horror) to Documentaries. Industry panels, director Q&As, special event screenings, and networking opportunities will also be happening during the movie mania week.
Harry Potter Weekend in Chestnut Hill
When: October 17th – 18th Where: Top of the Hill Fountain Plaza, 8705 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia
Calling all Harry Potter fans! Chestnut Hill’s annual Harry Potter Weekend is back this October with more wizarding fun. Start your festival experience with the opening ceremony and themed Pub Crawl on Friday. Tickets are required for the Pub Crawl, which is a 21+ event. Saturday will feature a Quidditch Tournament and a variety of themed food and drinks straight out of the beloved books. State of Young Philly
When: November 14th – 22nd
Have an idea how to make Philly an even better place for young people? The people at State of Young Philly are more than eager to hear your ideas. This conference gathers together young professionals along with elected officials and organizations to have discussions on how Philly can grow and benefit the next generation.
