April 2016 Stakeholder Newsletter

Campus Philly Stakeholder Newsletter

April 2016

Dear Campus Philly Stakeholder,

Campus Philly is at the start of its second decade building connections between the region’s college students and all the region has to offer them during school and post-graduation. Seeing us through this future and leading us in our second decade are three Campus Philly honorary board chairs who support our mission and extend our reach. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, Drexel President John Fry, and Comcast Corporation Senior Executive Vice President David L. Cohen represent the three pillars that make Campus Philly’s work successful: the city, the higher education institutions in our region and the employers who grow with the talent our region produces and attracts.

Read more about their leadership and connection to Campus Philly here. And, read below about the ways we are building those connections through some great programs this spring and our plans for next fall when we welcome the class of 2020 to the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection.

Happy spring and thank you for your continued support of Campus Philly.

Sincerely,

Deborah Diamond

Spring renewal

Spring RenewalCampus Philly’s Higher Education Partners renew their partnerships with Campus Philly each spring and start working with Campus Philly to welcome new students to Greater Philadelphia as early as June. Partnership information is currently being mailed to Campus Philly’s on-campus staff contacts ahead of the May 31 renewal deadline. If you’re interested in having your college or university join 34 other regional institutions in becoming a Campus Philly partner, contact Patrick Sherlock, VP University Relations, (patrick@campusphilly.org). Campus Philly programs are free for students at our partner schools.

To celebrate partnership renewal, and provide a preview of 2016-17 programs and events, Campus Philly is hosting a Partner Appreciation and Fall Program Preview Event on June 6 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Urban Outfitters’ headquarters in the Navy Yard, sponsored by our partner, TargetX. RSVP here and join us to celebrate, network with peers, and learn what events and programs Campus Philly has planned for this fall!

Eastern ACE comes to Philly (with a Campus Philly bonus)

The Eastern Association of College and Employers (EACE) will host its annual conference from June 22-24, 2016. This will be the first year the conference will occur in Philadelphia.

The conference features sessions specific to employers looking at trends and best practices.

The event offers Campus Philly corporate members and stakeholders a great opportunity to network with employers seeking campus talent and higher education organizations from the Eastern region of the U.S.

Students & regional employers meet their match

OJIFCampus Philly’s Online Job and Internship Fair (OJIF) launched on March 21st, 2016. The virtual event served thousands of students looking for summer internships or post-graduation jobs and hundreds of employers seeking our region’s best talent, all through our just-launched and totally awesome internship platform, campusphilly.org/careers. We’ll get to see the results of our match-making at Campus Philly’s My Philly Summer events where we invite summer interns to explore and enjoy all that Philadelphia has to offer over the summer. Some highlights from the Online Fair include:

  • A 173% jump in student activity on campusphilly.org/careers during the week of the Fair
  • More than 1,000 students logging on to find their dream gig
  • 207 employers posting nearly 900 positions on the website to find their next rock star

“Geeking-out” at the University City Science Center

Geeks GuideOn April 18th Campus Philly led its first annual Geek’s Guide to Philadelphia – an event that gives local students the chance to look inside at what the city’s creators and connectors are up to. Speakers included representatives from organizations like Science on Tap, Amalgam Comics, Indy Hall, Nerd Nite, and live demos from Comcast and Vanguard.

The Geek’s Guide to Philadelphia serves as an introduction to late April’s Philadelphia Science Festival and Philly Tech Week.
