A college student’s schedule may be busy, but you all need a break from your studies to enjoy the sights and sounds of Philly. Free Time Frenzy is just the place to find quick entertainment, dining, and Philly must-sees in under an hour. If you have any suggestions for future Free Time Frenzies use the hashtag #CPFreeTimeFrenzy and we will be sure to document your fun Philly Free Time activities.
Here are some of my favorite options to get a taste of the city in just under an hour: (remember to bring a camera!)
The Art Museum “Rocky” Steps:
If you have ever seen the Rocky movies or even if you haven’t, you know what the steps are. The second most famous movie location in the world has created a pretty important attraction in Philly. The steps are a Philadelphia must-see, so be prepared and make sure you wear your running shoes to race your friends to the top. Once you make it to the very top, your view of Philadelphia will be breathtaking.
The Fabric Workshop and Museum:
For a free museum tour, check out this exciting museum on 1214 Arch Street. The Fabric Workshop and Museum offers a chance to experience contemporary art and the exhibits change every few months, so you can go back multiple times throughout the semester. Right now the FWM has an exhibit called, “Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit” that displays works from FWM staff. Be sure to check it out.
P.S. If you’re hungry, Reading Terminal Market is only a block away!
Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens:
“Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens inspires creativity and community engagement by educating the public about folk, mosaic, and visionary art.” This indoor and outdoor art installation spans half of a block on one of Philadelphia’s famous streets, South Street. PMG and the artist Isaiah Zagar, have created a world of mosaics right at 1020 South Street. They are open Wednesday to Monday 11am- 6pm in the winter months.
