Philadelphia-area artists created 57 fiberglass donkeys to represent a participating Convention delegate in the upcoming DNC. The donkeys will be placed in various locations across the city and on display until September 9th.
Each fiberglass donkey represents a delegation for the convention. Every state has one, as well as the five U.S. territories, Washington, D.C., and the Democrats Abroad. The location of each donkey is dependent on where the corresponding delegation is staying for the DNC. The Pennsylvania donkey was installed outside of the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton in Center City, where the Pennsylvania delegation will be staying.

POLITICAL MOVIEFEST at Dilworth Park
Bring your friends and family and enjoy the outdoors and four great FREE movies at Dilworth Park! Movies will be shown at dusk beginning Wednesday, July 20, through Saturday, July 23, just before the Democratic National Convention arrives in Philadelphia.

Turning the Democratic political party into a full-fledged unique celebration, PopeRide and Philly Naked Bike Ride are teaming up to organize a 12-mile bike ride in celebration of this historic convention. But this isn’t just a bike ride- the group encourages riders to come bearing political messages that they want the city and visiting delegates to see (as long as they’re respectful and peaceful, of course).
The ride is happening on Wednesday, July 27. Riders will meet at Broad and Cheltenham at 6:30 pm and leave at 7:30 pm. You can RSVP for the event on their Facebook page, and follow their Twitter (@broadstreetride) for updates.
Seventy’s line-up during DNC Week includes three events, all taking place before the convention begins.
Girls and Boys on the Bus is the committee’s first event in the line-up. Millennial reporters share stories about the campaign trail, highlighting both Clinton and Trump. Reporters include Caitlin Huey-Burns, RealClearPolitics, NPR, CNN and Time Magazine. The event will be followed by a reception and a discussion, accompanied by beer, wine and appetizers.

Following this event is American Experiments, where guests will see and hear the best ideas from America’s civic-tech and political-reform communities to reignite the values of our democracy. As an attendee, you will be able to vote for the idea that you believe is most promising! The event is free, so definitely check it out.

Seventy’s final installation is Voices of Voting. This event centers around a 20-minute theater piece with a hip-hop/funk/jazz score that brings together the struggle to secure voting rights in the 1960s to the present-day challenge of encouraging the younger generation to see the value in voting participation.
Philly Feast, United We Eat:
Are you a food-truck lover? On July 25, from 11am to 3pm, visit 3rd and Arch Streets, in Old City for a diverse line-up of locally-based food trucks, live music and retail vendors. Philly Feast celebrates all of the Convention guests, including volunteers and Philadelphia residents by hosting the event. Use the hashtag #PhillyFeast to stay united and involved during the DNC.
PoliticalFest
Want to make this experience a truly edifying one? The host committee of the Democratic National Convention presents PoliticalFest, a non-partisan, interactive exhibition celebrating American history and the election with panels, performances, and displays.
PoliticalFest will be housed at seven locations, from the Philadelphia History Museum to the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The hub will be at the National Constitution Center, featuring an exhibit called Headed to the White House about the nature and history of the American election process, from the campaign trail to Inauguration.
Buying a ticket to PoliticalFest will allow you to visit all seven locations for one price. Running from July 22 to 27, the ticket is good for all six days and everything the event has to offer. Plus, college students get a discount!
Get Involved
Mighty Writers is a non-profit organization housed in the city Philadelphia. At 10am on July 26, Mighty Writers will host an event to publicize literacy and celebrate the youth in Philadelphia. The non-profit will organize 3,000 kids, ages 7-17, to sit on the Art Museum and write on the prompt: “If I were President…” If you love writing and would like to get involved, sign up to help usher or facilitate the event.
3 Squares, Inc., DNC Green Team is looking for volunteers to help keep the DNC eco-friendly. Join the Green Team in their fight to dispose of waste properly, putting waste in recycling versus in compost bins when appropriate, and in their fight towards improving the environment while the DNC takes place. Each volunteer would be assigned to a waste station for an 8-hour shift for the duration of the convention. The Green Team is requesting 300 volunteers, so it’s never too late to join the team!
