We hope you’re enjoying your winter break! We’re back from our Philly staycation and we’re so ready to make 2017 a great year in the 2-1-5. Even the best intentions, resolutions and plans need a little push to get the ball rolling, so let this be the nudge you need.
Start a brunch club! This is a great way to try new food and explore neighbohoods. Brunch club is like a book club but you know, with food. Similar to a bibliophile’s meetup, you pick a book restaurant and have a monthly discussion feast. For our wallet’s sake, monthly is best. Looking for brunch-spiration? Start with uwishunu’s list, The Best Places for Brunch in Philadelphia. We recently tried Hungry Pigeon on Fabric Row and it was A+.
Do good! Are you looking to get more involved in your community? Monday, January 17 is Martin Luther King Day of Service– “a day on, not off”– is a great day to start! There are a ton of volunteer events happening all around this great city. All opportunities are listed on MLK Day of Service’s official site, which makes registering super easy.
Dive into the arts and culture scene! But first, dip your toes into two exclusive College Night events brought to you by our Open Arts program. Not only are these events FREE and exclusive, but they’re great places to meet other students from across the region.
- On Friday, February 10, Opera Philadelphia will be providing FREE tickets to students for opening night of Tancredi, a medieval story of chivalry and tragic love in post-World War I Europe.
- On Wednesday, February 15, be part of the FREE live show, jam session, dance party and specialized tours at the Kimmel Center.
Find your voice! Join us on Saturday, February 11 for Temple University and Campus Philly’s very popular Inclusive Leadership Conference. This one-day leadership conference is open to ALL Philadelphia-area college students. Participants will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills through presentations, workshops, dialogues, and panels on topics related to inclusive leadership, social change, and collaboration.
(If brunch isn’t your thing) Start a dinner club! Start by making reservations during Restaurant Week, January 22-27 and January 29-February 3. Participating restaurants will offer three-course dinners for only $35 per person. In addition, many participating restaurants will also offer a three-course lunch for $20.
Join a secret society (just joking) and get fit! Being a member of Be Well Philly’s Underground means you’re the first to hear about pop-up fitness events and that you get first dibs on signing up. Pro-tip: Act fast! Many of their events have limited space, and they fill up fast. Sign up for FREE and keep an eye on your inbox for alerts about upcoming events!
