Mayor Kenney to College Students: “Call Philly Home This Summer”

bloggraphics-treatment14

As Mayor of this incredible city, my mission every single day is to make Philadelphia a place where people want to live and work. With the spring semester fully underway, I’d like to extend an invitation, share some advice, and make a request to all of you as you make your summer plans.

I invite you to spend your summer living and working here in Philadelphia. As you know, this is a great place to go to school, but it’s an even better place to live and work. I’d love for you to get a taste of that this summer with an internship or, if you’re about to graduate, your first job after college.

While you’re here, my advice to you is to make time to get to know the city. Campus Philly is here to help you do that. Look out for their My Philly Summer program for summer interns and sign up for their newsletter. Plus, there is plenty for you to see, do and experience while you are in Philadelphia. Make sure you check out the great arts and culture this city has to offer. Stop by Reading Terminal Market or one of the unique restaurants in your own neighborhood. Join a few hundred thousand of your closest friends on the Ben Franklin Parkway for the July 4th fireworks. Take in a game at Citizens Bank Park.

And finally, my ask. Consider committing to Philadelphia – staying here, making a difference here, and building a future here. Our city is full of opportunity for young people. Not only are there amazing jobs available, but we also have a vibrant environment and high quality of life at a lower cost than many other cities. Selfishly, I know that Philadelphia needs you – your energy, your creativity, your great minds and your hearts to help us thrive and to address some of the challenges that lie ahead.

I hope to see you around this summer!

Jim Kenney

Mayor, City of Philadelphia
