Philly To-Do: End of April Picks

From closing the book on your first year of college to throwing your caps in the air, May is a milestone month. The build up to such a monumental time should be a fun one, so here are our end of April event picks.

Philadelphia Science Festival 
Now until Saturday, April 29 | Citywide 

A nine-day, community-wide celebration of science that takes place annually in April. Featuring lectures, debates, hands-on activities, special exhibitions and a variety of other informal science education experiences for all ages, the Festival aims to provide opportunities for all Philadelphians to positively engage with and build a community around science, engineering, and technology.


Citywide Star Party
Friday, April 28 | 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 pm | Various locations 

Look towards the sky with dozens of telescopes and local astronomers at 24 locations across the region for one night only. Join your friends and neighbors to gaze at the stars, contemplate the universe, and discuss the cosmos – right in your own back yard! All Citywide Star Party locations are FREE. 


Philly Tech Week
April 28-May 6 | Citywide

Philly Tech Week 2017 is a week-long celebration of technology and innovation happening throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. There’s something for everyone!


Philadelphia Science Festival Carnival
Saturday, April 29 | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing

A free, fun-filled event that takes over the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing. This all-ages affair brings a slew of activities, hands-on experiments, live performances, educator opportunities and explosive visuals for a day of scientific fun. Last year’s carnival featured “Sumo Robot” matches, animals from the Philadelphia Zoo and more.


Fairmount Avenue Arts Crawl
Sunday, April 30 | 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. | Fairmount Ave.

Check out this free indoor/outdoor festival for art lovers of all mediums, which transforms the Art Museum Area of Philadelphia into an eclectic showcase of local artists and performers in its streets, restaurants, businesses, shops and bars. The event features emerging and ground-breaking artists in a range of media including painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and mixed-media. The festival includes more than 40 exhibits in all!


Flavors on the Avenue: A Street Festival 
Sunday, April 30 | 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. | East Passyunk Ave.

The brand-new street festival will feature five blocks of street food, seasonal sips, craft beer, live music, sidewalk sales and free family fun on five blocks – from Broad to Dickinson streets. 

Twenty-seven award-winning restaurants and bars will bring their signature cuisine outside under the blue skies.  Craft beer and wine will pour from the festival beer tent – and select restaurants will also offer seasonal cocktails, beer and wines for the crowds.
