Is design your thing? Head to the 2017 DesignPhiladelphia Festival, October 5-14. Explore 130+ events and open houses all around the city, all about design.
First, let’s party– kickoff party. This year’s showstopper party takes place on Wednesday, October 4 from 6 to 10 p.m., in the heart of Center City on the Jefferson campus. DesignPhilly has teamed up with A.C. Moore and five curated design teams to feature a series of installations that will spark conversation and peak curiosity. And of course, food! Enjoy delicious burgers by Shake Shack and flavorful snacks and drinks from 12th Street Catering. Bonus: Tickets are half price for students!
With the kickoff complete, the first weekend of DesignPhiladelphia Festival, the Center for Architecture and Design will transform into the Art Star Market, while on the second weekend, NextFab will host their Maker Market, providing opportunities for local makers to sell their wares. In addition the AIA Bookstore at 1218 Arch St. will transform into the DesignPhilly Pop-Up Shop featuring local designers for the duration of the festival.
On Thursday, October 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, the 3rd Annual FitCityPHL symposium will take place at the Center for Architecture and Design. Led by Health Promotion Council, a subsidiary of Public Health Management Corporation, FitCityPHL explores design strategies in workplaces, neighborhoods, and cities that improve healthAfter the symposium, please join The Fabric Workshop and Museum next door for a Healthy Happy Hour and Fitness Tour of their current exhibition, Louis Kahn: The Power of Architecture. Tickets for FitCity are $15 for students with a valid ID.
