Four Spring Road Trips from Philly to Plan NOW!

CampusPhillyBlogPost_Spring_1

Admit it – you’re going a little stir crazy with all these snow days, canceled classes, and frigid days spent indoors. Spring is almost here, and with it comes every excuse to get outside. Any day with a temperature about 45 degrees essentially feels like summertime – that’s how you know this winter has been long!

For the days that you want to get out and explore around the Philly area, without coordinating regional rail schedules with friends or worrying about who is able to borrow a car from their parents, there’s Zipcar – and for college students like you, the $15 annual membership is a no-brainer. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite springtime day trips to make the most of your spring semester by exploring everything Philly, and the surrounding region, have to offer:

  • Longwood Gardens: Orchid Extravaganza, one of the site’s most popular floral events of the year, is happening until March 24, but any visit to Longwood Gardens is well worth it. College students can save $3 on admission (don’t forget your ID) and spend a full day exploring the huge public garden featuring seasonal beauties and awe-inspiring architecture centered around nature.

  • Valley Forge National Historical Park: up for a historical hike? One of the Philly area’s most historic parks is just over 30 minutes away from the city. There’s plenty (3,500 acres, to be exact) of trails, monuments, meadows and woodlands to explore at Valley Forge, which was the site of the 1777-78 winter encampment of the Continental Army. Admission is free, and don’t forget to pack a picnic to enjoy on some of the most historic grounds in the Philly area.
  • New Hope, Pennsylvania: located in Bucks County, PA is the small town of New Hope, where you can easily spend a day walking around and just looking at how picture-perfect everything is. If it’s warm enough to eat outside, get a table at one of the many restaurants along the Delaware River, like The Landing Restaurant or Karla’s, for some of the best views. Explore the town’s eclectic shops, stroll through the quaint streets, and take the most springtime selfies at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve.

  • Ocean City, New Jersey: sure, it’s not quite warm enough to be considered beach weather, but one of New Jersey’s best beach towns has a ton to offer all year round. The famous Manco and Manco’s pizza is open all year (and 100% worth the 1 hour, 20 minute drive), plus the boardwalk and Asbury Avenue have shops and eateries that everyone

Get rid of your cabin fever and sign up for Zipcar today to venture out of the city area and into some of the Greater Philadelphia region’s best springtime spots.

P.S. – did you know that Zipcar also has cars in warmer cities down south and on the west coast, including Miami, Houston, Austin, LA, San Diego, San Francisco, and Atlanta? Your
