Oh, and speaking of recs, let’s pass it over to some of our favorite student foodies!

Check out our mini-interview with @phillyfoodladies—a food-influencer account managed by Temple students Rebecca Neckritz & Christina Mitchell—to hear all about how they launched their account, and why they love sharing their Philly bites with YOU!

1. Tell us about @phillyfoodladies. Why did you start your foodie account?

Becca: “We started @phillyfoodladies during our freshman year at Temple University! Christina and I were roommates and immediately bonded over our love of food. We wanted to share our delicious discoveries with our friends. We also feel that embracing eating, as women, is a radical act that hopefully helps other people create a healthier relationship to food. Our page has grown so much over the past four years and we’ve gone from 30 followers to over 5.5K!”

2. That’s awesome. And what about Philadelphia’s food scene made you most excited—what makes Philly’s food so special?

Christina: “I come from a small, suburban town where there were very few multicultural food options, and most of the restaurants were either big chains or fast food. When I arrived in Philadelphia, I was blown away by the plethora of local businesses and cultural dishes. Now I have so many places on my bucket list that I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to cross everything off!”

3. Yes! Our bucket list is also h-u-g-e. Let’s talk about being a student in this city. Why Philly?

Becca: “Philly has so much culture. From nights out at the orchestra to museum student discounts to Restaurant Week, Philly has it all. Plus, it’s much more affordable than other big cities. As a theater major, I’ve been able to work with professional companies while still being a full-time student. There’s always a new mural to find, or ramen bar to eat at, or play to watch in Philly!”

4. OK, now we gotta ask this because you two are THE experts: Where’s the best foodie deal in the city?

Christina: “Some of my favorite deals are Sampan’s tasting menu (8 courses for $50), Apricot Stone’s mezze for 2 (also 8 courses for $50), Pizzeria Vetri’s 21+ deal (3 courses and two drinks for $65), and literally anywhere for Center City Restaurant Week!”

Check out @phillyfoodladies for amazing foodie photos, and give them a follow for even more budget-friendly recommendations!
