Eric Cathcart is a recent Rutgers University graduate and current Loan Advisor at Freedom Mortgage, a non-bank, full-service mortgage company that provides mortgage loans through retail, wholesale, and correspondent channels headquartered in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.

Tell us about yourself. What’s your day-to-day life like at Freedom Mortgage?
I enjoy work every day—the company culture keeps my day-to-day activities fun!
How has your academic career prepared you for your professional career?
Freedom Mortgage made the transition from college to corporate seamless. Starting the First Flyer Program with peers who are in the same situation as you is extremely helpful!
Tell us about the First Flyer Program. What was your career path like leading up to Freedom Mortgage?
I had no idea what I wanted to do when I graduated college. I was an Economics major that wanted to make money. This led me to sales and the First Flyer Program. The First Flyer Program supplied me with all the support that I needed to be successful in my role!
What’s your advice on finding a job post-grad, especially for recent grads launching their careers in the pandemic? Any advice for students looking to gain experience with Freedom Mortgage?
I got denied from hundreds of other companies before getting an opportunity with Freedom Mortgage. My advice to job-seekers would be to stay positive! Rejections can sting in the short-term, but persevering through adversity and maintaining a positive mindset will land you where you are supposed to be going forward. You will be more prepared to take advantage of that opportunity when it arises compared to if you got a job offer on your first interview!

The Greater Philadelphia Region is near and dear to my heart. Having an opportunity with Freedom Mortgage to further my career while living close to family and friends is something that I can not put a price tag on!
