The holiday season is in full swing in Philadelphia! There’s so much to do, see, explore—and buy—as we prepare to celebrate all of our favorite holidays.

Even though the holidays are fun, we know it can be overwhelming trying to find the perfect gifts for your loved ones. That’s why we’ve curated a list of 5 Black Businesses that you can support this month by purchasing a gift or gift card!

1. Uncle Bobbies

Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee & Books is a Coffee Shop and Bookstore located in the Germantown neighborhood of the city. The founder, Marc Lamont Hill, created it with the intention to provide underserved communities with access to books and a space where everyone feels valued.

Their book selection is specially curated to highlight the stories of Black and Brown voices. They also sell clothing apparel, games, high-quality coffee, food, and more. Uncle Bobbie’s is also a community space that holds free author talks, workshops, and other events. If you’re in the Germantown area you can stop by the coffee shop or purchase any of their books, merch, or audiobooks online!

2. The Sable Collective

The Sable Collective is a retail shop based in Philadelphia where unique products intentionally sourced from Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and women makers are sold. With beauty and wellness for Black Women at the forefront, they provide and sell jewelry, vintage clothing, home decor, and self-care products!

The retail shop is fueled by creativity and connected by community. You can visit The Sable Collective at Christmas Village on the Love Park side from now until Christmas Eve or order your gifts online!

3. Black and Mobile

Gift your favorite foodie a gift card from Black and Mobile, the country’s first Black-Owned food delivery service that exclusively partners with Black-Owned restaurants! Philly native David Cabello launched Black and Mobile in the city in February of 2019 during Black History Month. Since then, the company has expanded to cities like Atlanta, Baltimore, and New York.

Black and Mobile’s main focus is to highlight underrepresented businesses in the urban communities that are often overlooked, and provide them with the technology they need to not only expand their customer base, but to stay competitive in this rapidly changing economy.

You can find restaurants on Black and Mobile like Veganish, 48th Street Grille, and many more!

4. Mount Airy Candle

Give the warm gift of scent for the holidays. Mount Airy Candle Co. is a hand-poured and uniquely scented soy candle company that was birthed in the East Mount Airy section of the city. They have beautifully crafted candle collections and shop curations that make their essential oil products the perfect gift for any occasion! You can often find them at pop-ups all around town or order your favorite scents from their online store.

Use the promo code “4theholidays” to receive 10% off your order of four or more 9.5oz or 14.0oz candles from now until January 1st, 2022! (Hurry! This promo code is limited to the first 44 users.)

5. Grant BLVD

Grant BLVD is a clothing brand that is responding to poverty through sustainable fashion. All of their products are sustainably sourced and the company has built its production model on waste reduction, carbon reduction, job creation, and radical inclusivity.

Grant BLVD is also committed to disrupting and creating change in our prison system. Through this commitment they have partnered with brands like Books Through Bars and The Youth Sentencing and Reentry Project by donating a portion of their proceeds and volunteering on days of service. To help support the cause, head to their website to see their store hours or purchase from their clothing collection!

This holiday season, we hope that you take the time to find gifts for your loved ones that support these businesses—and many more Black-owned businesses—in the city. Happy Holidays from Campus Philly!
