Share Food Program: Help Out on Nice Roots Farm

Share Food Program distributes food to 1,000,000 neighbors in need each month, over 50% of whom are children, and 12% of whom are seniors or people with disabilities. The Nice Roots Farm is where we grow fresh fruits and vegetables that we distribute to farmers’ markets across the region, and the proceeds from those sales support our operations. Breah Banks manages the Nice Roots Farm, and her expertise and passion keep it running smoothly, year ’round. But she doesn’t do it alone.

Sign up to volunteer on Saturday, September 11 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.!

What’s the opportunity?
Activities may include planting, mulching, watering, weeding, raking or harvesting. Sometimes we need help with routine cleaning and maintenance around the farm as well.

Whom is my volunteer work helping?
The produce from Nice Roots Farm is sold at extremely discounted cost at local farmers’ markets, and to seniors through the Farmers Market Nutrition Program. In addition to distributing fresh produce, we use the farm as an opportunity to teach local school students about urban agriculture.

What are the requirements?

  • Volunteers may be required to lift bags of mulch or use tools. We recommend that volunteers be able to lift at least 20lbs.
  • This activity takes place outdoors, so volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and bring water, sunscreen and bug spray.
