Mazzoli Ecstatic Science—First Philadelphia Orchestra Performance
Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3

The New York Times hails Grammy-nominated Missy Mazzoli, “one of the consistently inventive, surprising composers now working in New York,” and Ecstatic Science exemplifies her innovative style. She explains that, in Ecstatic Science, “Melodies are flipped upside-down and fractured into the smallest possible element. The horizontal becomes vertical and the vertical stretches systematically into a twisting melody. The ‘science’ behind the notes provides a frame for a persistent, bubbling energy, a scaffold for the ecstatic gestures that eventually consume everything else.”

Complementing Ecstatic Science, world-renowned pianist Yefim Bronfman will interpret Beethoven’s dynamic Piano Concerto No. 3.

Please note: All Digital Stage events begin with a performance premiere, streaming in real time. Following the performance premiere, the concert will be available for ticket holders to watch on demand for 72 hours.
