Violist Grace Takeda opens her graduation recital with J. S. Bach’s transcendent Suite No. 2 in D minor and continues with Henri Vieuxtemps’s “Hommage à Paganini,” one virtuoso’s impassioned tribute to another. In her pensive Prelude, living composer Ana Sokolovic draws inspiration from Indian and Middle-Eastern music traditions. The recital continues with American composer Quincy Porter’s boisterous Suite for Solo Viola. She concludes her performance with the dramatic Cadenza, a piece by recently-deceased Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki, and Atar Arad’s poignant tribute to him.
