January Spotlight Tour: Modigliani and Soutine: A Surprising Friendship

Each month, Spotlight Tours focus on a different artist or theme, allowing for a deeper dive into specific areas of the collection. Known for his freewheeling bohemian lifestyle, Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani developed a radical approach to painting the human figure inspired by African sculpture. His friendship with struggling Lithuanian artist Chaïm Soutine began when the two were living in Paris’s Montparnasse neighborhood.
