Science After Hours: Celestial Sips

Fill your winter night with some cosmic delight and keep your friends near in this festive atmosphere for an evening of live music, stellar stories, and surprises that will leave you enchanted under the stars.

Celebrate the opening of our brand-new exhibit, Wondrous Space, and dress up in your galactic best to satel-lite up the night for all to see.

Featured Programming: 

  • Grab some bubbly or hot chocolate and gather in our Campfire Lounge, aka The Fels Planetarium, where Chief Astronomer and master storyteller Derrick Pitts will be joined by musician Keegan Tawa as they take you on a trip through the cosmos for stories of the stars.
  • Enjoy Drag Bingo and play for prizes with the fantastic operatic diva herself, Sapphira Cristál. 
  • Take to the dance floor with musical performances by the Arpeggio Jazz Trio, Un Toque de Cache, and Lili St. Queer.
  • Craft a letter to your future self or write one for a close friend with the help of Philly Typewriter and their collection of operable vintage typewriters.
  • Party photographer UV Lucas will be around to capture the night.
  • Enjoy delightful photo opportunities, including our 25-foot-tall celestial tree.
  • Stay tuned – more to be announced!

  • Evening access to all the museums’ core exhibits and galleries, including Wondrous Space

  • Access to our roof deck offering spectacular city views and facilitated stargazing (weather permitting)

What To Know: 

  • This is a 21+ event. A valid form of identification will be checked upon entry.
  • Only small clutch bags are allowed (4.5”x6.5”).
  • Food and drink provided by Seravezza Events is available for purchase at stations located throughout the museum.
  • Doors open for the event open at 7:30 pm. Most programming begins around 8:00 pm; a full schedule for the evening will be released just prior to the event.
  • While we encourage everyone to dress up to the theme, there is no formal dress code for Science After Hours. Shoes, tops, and bottoms are required for entry, and no full-face coverings are permitted.
  • The Franklin Institute does not discriminate based on gender or orientation, race, or religion. Anybody found to harass other guests will be escorted from the event.
