This neighborhood is so versatile! In the summer, part of the waterfront transforms into SUMMERFEST, with rides, games and roller skating. During WINTERFEST, I love to warm up with hot cocoa and watch Eagles games in the lodge, or go ice skating!
FRINGEARTS has awesome theater and comedy shows, plus outdoor movies in the summer and fall. I recently went to a movie screening of Clueless – it was lovely to be with a group of people coming from all over the city and having the BEN FRANKLIN BRIDGE as the backdrop, like as if.
I love the structure and design of CHERRY STREET PIER – exposed beams, open art studios, unique lighting and people. There are always special exhibitions and community programs going on. Don’t forget to try the delicious biscuits at BIRDIE’S BISCUITS!
It’s so easy to walk along the waterfront to the SOUTH STREET area for Headhouse Square’s FARMERS MARKET every Sunday, and just a bit farther south is WASHINGTON AVENUE GREEN, with amazing riverfront views.
SPRUCE STREET HARBOR PARK is great for people-watching May–September. Sometimes I bring my book and read in one of the many hammocks by the river. There are outdoor games, food trucks, live music and an arcade!
