As told by JOSE FONTANO | La Salle University | CLASS OF 2019 | @josenothose | Jose Fontano

My friends and I find ourselves on GERMANTOWN AVENUE nearly every weekend. The tree-lined cobblestone street links Germantown, Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill and has a ton of shops, art galleries and restaurants.

Our favorite spot to eat is the TROLLEY CAR DINER & CAFÉ, serving diner foods and breakfast all day. There’s also an ice cream parlor built into a real, former trolley car!

After a long day of class, I like to meet friends at MCMENAMIN’S TAVERN for some classic and delicious eats. Insider tip (for the 21+ crowd): They have a great local beer list.

Pop into UNCLE BOBBIE’S COFFEE & BOOKS for coffee and food, but stay for the community vibe. This bookshop-café is an awesome spot to meet new people, and the book selection is great!

Even though it’s just a few miles from the city, WISSAHICKON VALLEY PARK feels like a true escape. There are lovely outdoor trails where you can breathe in some fresh air, hike or have a picnic.

MORRIS ARBORETUM is a really awesome spot to spend the day – there are more than 13,000 plants growing in this collection! Bring a student ID for discount admission.
