Campus Philly Stakeholder Newsletter

June 2015

Dear Campus Philly Stakeholder,

Campus Philly brings together the leaders who are educating our future workforce and the employers who seek that talent to grow their businesses. That’s one reason we’re very proud to welcome Campus Philly’s two newest board members: Dr. Guy Generals, President of Community College of Philadelphia, and Nicole Wormley, Senior Manager of U.S. Talent Acquisition for Campbell Soup Company. They join a board of directors that is committed to making Greater Philadelphia a place where students graduate into opportunity and employers find the talent they need. You can also read about Dr. Generals' recent inauguration at the Community College of Philadelphia here.

Below, you’ll read about all we have to celebrate in the just-completed academic year and all that’s planned to connect students to our region in the year to come. We’re grateful to all the partners that make this work possible.

Reflecting on graduation season.

Graduation SeasonGraduation season brings many reasons to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and also the benefits to our region of being a college town. Read more about these benefits in our president Deborah Diamond’s commentary in the Philadelphia Business Journal and listen to Deborah reflect on why students are staying in Philadelphia after graduation in an interview with Newswork’s Dave Heller.

And on our June 4 Event.

Partner Appreciation EventBut of course, we couldn’t do any of this without support from our outstanding partners. That’s why we worked with TargetX to hold a Partner Appreciation Event on June 4 at the Academy of Vocal Arts. The focus was “Insider Perspectives on Student Success,” featuring a panel of college students from all over the region discussing their stories of success. Didn’t manage to make it to the event? Check out our recap of the takeaways and photos.

Looking forward to the My Philly Summer Party.

My Philly SummerJuly is closer than you think! Your summer interns are invited to our My Philly Summer Party, the premier regional networking event for young professionals, on July 14 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Ralph’s Café on the 43rd floor of the Comcast Center. At the party, sponsored and hosted by Comcast, your interns will have fun while building their professional network, snack on delicious food as they meet fellow interns and make new friends, and see Philadelphia in a way they’ve never seen it before. For more info and to register your interns, visit

And to the Meet Philly Tour and CollegeFest!

College FestCampus Philly’s Meet Philly Tour has started — our team will come to your campus with our Philly 101 and Open Arts 101 trainings for RAs and orientation leaders to help them create free programming using Philadelphia; we’ll also be tabling at activities fairs and welcome week events to meet new students one-on-one. We will be making more than 100 stops this summer, all leading up to CollegeFest on September 12 at Dilworth Park next to City Hall. For more, visit

We’re introducing students to Philly arts and culture, too.

College NightThe fun doesn’t stop with CollegeFest. This fall, Campus Philly’s Open Arts program is partnering with three cultural venues to highlight a series of college nights for local students. The College Night Series kicks off with Opera Philadelphia’s annual Opera On The Mall on October 3. Students can bring friends and picnic on the Independence Mall lawn while watching the broadcasted performance. Later in October, Open Arts will be promoting College Night at the Philadelphia Orchestra on October 20, welcoming hundreds of students to the orchestra’s season kickoff. November ends the College Night Series with a celebratory night at the Barnes Foundation on November 13 for a free night of music, performances and an opportunity to view the unique collection.

In case you hadn’t heard…

The Pope is coming! Philadelphia will welcome the world during the World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015 on September 22 – 27. The week-long conference will culminate in a visit by Pope Francis, and more than 10,000 volunteers will be needed for both the World Meeting of Families Congress (September 22 – 25) and Papal Visit (September 26 – 27). Online volunteer registration is now officially open to the public. Individuals 18 years of age and older can now register here for the opportunity to play a crucial role in this once-in-a-lifetime event.
