Campus Philly Stakeholder Newsletter

May 2015

Dear Campus Philly Stakeholder,

Over the past few weeks, Philadelphia has really felt like the college town it is, as academic cap-and-gown-clad graduates stream down North Broad Street, South Broad Street and throughout West Philadelphia to attend graduation. Philadelphia should be proud that it’s done such a good job welcoming its college students that the majority of them — 64%, according to our 2014 survey of recent college grads — will stay as residents. And we should also celebrate the students we send forth, as they will build Philadelphia’s national and international reputation wherever they choose to go. Read more about ongoing Campus Philly and citywide efforts to introduce students to Philadelphia below.

First, celebrating our partners.

Our college and cultural partners have worked hard this year to bring the best of Philadelphia to students, and Campus Philly will celebrate their efforts and achievements at a Partner Appreciation Event on June 4 from 4-6 p.m. at the Academy of Vocal Arts. The event will include a “flipped” panel, where current college students talk about off-campus engagement as a key to student success, followed by a beer and wine reception for our partners. We encourage all of our current and prospective college and cultural partners to attend; register for this free event today. Thanks go out to our event sponsor, TargetX, and our host sponsor, the Academy of Vocal Arts.

Congrats to Talent Greater Philly honorees!

Talent Greater PhillyCampus Philly isn’t the only one celebrating local efforts to improve college student outcomes. Talent Greater Philly recently honored Community College of Philadelphia, Ben Franklin Technology Partners, USLI, Peirce College, and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in their Regional Challenge, a program designed to showcase local businesses and higher education institutions dedicated to the educational advancement of Philadelphia's residents. Read more about how the five honorees have helped more Philadelphians complete college here. Talent Greater Philly was formed in 2010 to amplify the efforts of the region’s many educational support partners and encourage college students to complete their degrees.

My Philly Summer Party 2015.

My Philly SummerEven when the school year ends, Campus Philly keeps helping students discover Philadelphia. Your summer interns are invited to our My Philly Summer Party, the premier regional networking event for young professionals, on July 14 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Ralph’s Café on the 43rd floor of the Comcast Center. At the party, sponsored and hosted by Comcast, your interns will have fun while building their professional network, snack on delicious food as they meet fellow interns and make new friends, and see Philadelphia in a way they’ve never seen it before. For more info, contact Ashlie Thornbury.

Campus Philly at the Annual TargetX Summit.

Lindsey CampbellWe are excited to announce that our very own operations & marketing manager, Lindsey Campbell, will be presenting at the 8th Annual TargetX Summit in Washington, D.C. This is a great opportunity for us to share what we’ve learned in our first few months with our new TargetX CRM system and we strongly encourage all of our college partners that are considering implementing a CRM system on their campus to join us! Learn more.

Social media for the social good.

Chaney HarterThe Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a “Social Media for the Social Good” panel on June 10 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m., and our communications manager Chaney Harter will be sharing her experiences with social media in a nonprofit setting. Registration for this event is now open, and anyone wanting to learn about best practices for nonprofits using social media is encouraged to attend.
