Campus Philly Stakeholder Newsletter

May 2016

Dear Campus Philly Stakeholder,

It’s graduation season and it’s not just the families of the graduates who should be celebrating, but all of us in the region. Greater Philadelphia higher education institutions grant 90,000 degrees each year, more than almost any other metro region. And Philadelphia’s retention rate for recent graduates is significantly higher than the national average, 64% vs. 42%.

We’re proud of the work we do at Campus Philly to generate this strong college student retention rate and we see the dividends it pays for our employers, start-up community and neighborhoods. But I think we’re even more proud and excited by those moments when we see students fall in love with Philadelphia. It’s our business to create those moments, to enrich students’ college-going experience, get them to consider Philadelphia after graduation, and have them as our region’s ambassadors and evangelists no matter where they land.

In this newsletter you’ll read about ways to join us in creating and participating in those moments when students fall in love with Philly. I hope to see you there!

We beg to differ WalletHub

Campus Philly Career EventMost of the press Philadelphia gets these days is deservedly positive. But every once in a while Philly occupies a place on a list that doesn’t make us happy. So, when WalletHub underestimated Philly as a place to launch a career, Campus Philly’s president Deborah Diamond couldn’t let it go without speaking up. Here’s Deborah’s answer to why WalletHub got it wrong, published as an op-ed in The Philadelphia Business Journal on May 19, 2016.
