Celebrate America’s birthday where it all began! The Independence Visitor Center invites visitors and locals to watch as the iconic Termini Brothers Bakery staff decorates a spectacular five-tier cake live on-site beginning at 9 AM. They will also be arranging 2,500 red, white, and blue cupcakes into the shape of an American flag.
At 1 PM, Betsy Ross arrives with a fife-and-drum procession to lead the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to America, before distributing all of the cake and cupcakes for FREE!

Welcome America turns Independence Mall and the surrounding area into a family-friendly block party on Sunday, June 30th. This will be the 5th annual Historic Philadelphia Block Party, and we plan to celebrate in a big way! Join us in the Historic District of Philadelphia on a day where thousands of attendees will come together to enjoy a festive event that commemorates our country’s freedom and the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection! At this year’s block party, we will be featuring a variety of entertainment, food trucks and pop-up performances! The excitement includes diverse genres of music with a focus on strong female performers, educational elements, arts and entertainment, health and wellness and of course plenty of food options! This year’s block party will feature acts at People’s Plaza on The Freedom Stage, with electrifying performances leading into the evening’s Gospel on Independence.
In addition to the Freedom Stage and the vast variety of food trucks, there will be the Kids Zone, which will be programmed specifically for the young attendees! This area will focus on arts, education, entertainment, and health and wellness. There will be something for kids of all ages to enjoy!
Strolling throughout the crowd, adding to the excitement of this great community event, will be pop-up performances that will attract excitement and social media worthy moments! Spread throughout 5th and 6th street, there will be a ton of food trucks offering something for everyone. Event sponsors will also be dispersed around the footprint offering samples of food and drink and fun giveaways.
